WHY THIS WORKSHOP EXISTS

We Believe Astrophotography Is More Than a Technique
Astrophotography isn’t about ticking off a shot of the Milky Way or following a preset.
It’s about slowing down, understanding the night sky, and learning how to work with darkness rather than fighting it.

For this reason, this workshop exists because too many night photography courses rush people through settings, hold back knowledge, or focus on results instead of experience. That’s not how we teach.

How We Teach
• We work in small groups so we can spend real time with you.
• We explain why things work, not just what to set on your camera.
• If something doesn’t click straight away, we stay with you until it does.

There’s no script, no pressure to “keep up”, and no secrets held back.

Our Responsibility to the Places We Photograph
The night sky is fragile, and so are the locations beneath it.
We actively teach responsible night photography. Respecting the land, minimising impact, and following Leave No Trace principles.

We choose locations carefully, support local communities where we can, and encourage photographers to build a deeper connection with nature rather than just collecting images.

Who This Workshop Is For
This workshop is for photographers who:

• Want to truly understand astrophotography, not just copy settings
• Value thoughtful teaching and personal guidance
• Care about nature, place, and the experience of being out at night
• Are happy to spend time learning, experimenting, and refining their craft

If you’re looking for fast results, big groups, or a rushed checklist-style course, this probably isn’t the right fit, and that’s okay.

Uluru under the stars
This workshop is designed to help you understand astrophotography, not memorise settings.
Everything is taught on location, in real conditions, with time to ask questions and refine your approach.

A Calm, Guided Experience Under the Stars

What the Experience Is Like on the Night

HOW THE NIGHT UNFOLDS

Arrival & Orientation
We meet on location before full darkness sets in.
This gives you time to:

• Set up your gear without pressure
• Get familiar with the surroundings
• Ask initial questions
• Understand how the night will flow

We begin with a short briefing on safety, conditions, and the plan for the evening.

Learning Before Shooting
Before the sky fully reveals itself, we walk through:

• Camera setup and basic night-ready settings
• How to work comfortably in the dark
• How to approach composition once the sky appears

Nothing is rushed.
We explain why settings matter, not just what to dial in.

Photographing the Night Sky
As darkness deepens, we move into practical shooting:

• Milky Way photography when conditions allow
• Star trail techniques as the night progresses
• One-on-one guidance while you shoot
• Time to experiment, refine, and ask questions

You’re never left guessing. Instructors are nearby, watching setups and helping you adjust.

Wrapping Up
Before packing down, we:

• Review what worked and why
• Answer final questions
• Talk through next steps you can apply on your own
• You leave with knowledge you understand, not just images you captured.

Adapting to Real Conditions
Every night is different.
Clouds, wind, and sky clarity are part of astrophotography, and part of the learning.

We teach you how to:

• Adapt your approach when conditions change
• Make creative decisions instead of giving up
• Use what the night offers rather than fighting it
• This is where confidence really builds.

A Supportive Atmosphere
Small group size (4–6 participants)

• No pressure to “keep up”
• All experience levels welcome
• Questions encouraged at every stage
• Many participants arrive unsure, and leave feeling capable, calm, and inspired to shoot independently.

F.A.Q
You have Questions - We have Answers
Is this astrophotography workshop suitable for beginners?
Yes. The workshop is designed for all skill levels.
Step by step, we guide you through your camera, night-sky settings, composition, and creative techniques.
No prior astrophotography experience is required.
What will I learn in the astrophotography workshop?
You will learn how to find and frame the Milky Way, capture star trails, and set up long exposures at night.
In practice, we focus on working confidently in low-light outdoor conditions. The focus is on hands-on learning, not theory overload.
Do I need special equipment for the workshop?
We recommend bring your own camera and lens.

• A camera with manual mode
• A tripod
• A wide-angle lens (recommended, not mandatory)
• A remote shutter release
• Extra batteries
• Empty memory card

If you’re missing equipment, we can often provide loan lenses, tripods, remotes, or filters, depending on availability and camera compatibility. We always recommend to work with what you have.

I don’t own a camera yet, can I still attend?
Yes.
If you are considering buying a camera or are completely new, this workshop is a great way to understand what equipment suits astrophotography before investing. Please contact us in advance so we can arrange suitable gear where possible.
What to bring on the night?
This workshop works best if you bring a DSLR or mirrorless camera with full manual control (aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and bulb mode).
Your camera should be capable of shooting at ISO 1600 or 6400 to capture the Milky Way and stars clearly.

Camera gear

• Your widest lens or zoom (for example 14–35mm or 24–70mm)
• A stable tripod
• Remote shutter release (if you have one)
• 2–3 fully charged batteries
• Empty memory cards
• Camera manual (if you’re not familiar with your settings)

Personal comfort

• Warm layered clothing (coastal nights get cold)
• Windproof jacket
• Gloves and a warm hat
• Sturdy shoes or boots
• Camping chair (there are limited seating options)
• Snacks and water (some provided)
• Head torch or red-light torch (both are useful)
• Bug repellent

What happens if the weather is unsuitable?
Astrophotography depends on clear skies.
If weather conditions on the day make the workshop impossible to run (for example, rain or heavy cloud cover), we will reschedule the session.

Instead of refunds, you can move to another scheduled workshop date. We run the workshop in most conditions and only reschedule when necessary.

Why is this location ideal for astrophotography?
We choose locations based on:

• Low light pollution
• Clear horizons
• Safe night access
• Strong Milky Way visibility

Each location is scouted to maximise photographic potential while keeping the experience relaxed and enjoyable.

Can my partner or friend join me?
Yes, as long as they are registered.
To keep the experience personal and hands-on, group sizes are limited to 4–6 participants. This ensures everyone receives individual guidance without pressure or rush.
