On-Location Astrophotography

πŸ‘‹ Hi Everyone and welcome to our We Are Raw Photography Guest Article! We here at We Are Raw Photography love to support our photographers and that’s why we monthly publish a guest article from our photographers. In this article, we welcome Claire who spend 2 fantastic nights with us on our Astrophotography workshop.

In the last months, we had a big success for our participants who conducted our Night-Sky Photography Course in Melbourne at the Cape Schank Lighthouse.

Our June and July Night-Sky courses were well received by attending photographers and we all had a great time shooting both late afternoon/sunset landscapes and then setting-up for star trails and Milky-way in the evening. Unfortunately for the start of the workshop a bit of uninvited cloud came to the party for the night but this didn’t dampen the spirits of everyone and participants still learnt a lot of new techniques and put them into practice which is always a challenge in the dark. Later at the night as promised the sky cleared. Sometimes it pays off the long wait. After the clouds all disappeared the fun part started. A big success in Star trail and Milky-way awaited us.

Thanks again for all our participants for waiting.

Claire Gore

I am no stranger to photographing the sky. I am avid cloud-watcher and love photographing severe weather such as storms, lightning and even tornadoes when given the chance.

One aspect of the sky I was unfamiliar with capturing however was the Milky Way, stars and night sky. I was lucky enough to attend George and Karolin’s astrophotography workshop in Cape Schanck and learn so much about how to really capture the night sky in all it’s glory.

Unfortunately for most of the night, the clouds made it difficult to practice any theory learned. However, as if by magic, around 11 pm the skies cleared and we were able to see and shoot The Milky Way. It was COLD and not without it’s challenges but so worth it. I will be chasing the Milky Way again for sure and will aim to eventually perfect the amazing star trails I’ve seen both George and Karolin produce. Thanks for an awesome weekend guys!
